No Sad Goodbyes
Dedicated to Kate Worley (1958-2004)
In 2004 Kate Worley passed away. I felt the need to do something. I began a song called 'If I Never See You Again." It became a ballad for Nellie, and then it blossomed into the finale dance number of a backstage musical.
In the show, this will be the final big number, with a ballet and a dreamlike Busby Berkeley production. I guess it's a spoiler to know ahead of time that the leading man dies. I can't help that. See if you can imagine Nellie and the shade of her dear departed dancing through their paces in the fantasy.

If I Never See You Again
If I never see you again
If you fade like the mist from out of the sight of me
If you leave me alone, remembering when
I will still have the memories of you I carry inside of me.
It's so hard to get through every day without you
Day after long, lonely day.
But though we're apart, inside of my heart,
No one can take you away.
And if you see me smile,
Or dance in the moonlight,
It's the memory of love
Keeping me up at night.
And though I go on alone, it isn't the end.
Though I may never see you again.
If I never see you again
You will never be gone from deep in the heart of me
I'll remember your touch, again and again,
And no matter what happens the world can't take it away from me.
Now I know what they say, 'It'll all be okay,'
'Someday there'll be somebody new.'
But I know what I know, and I'll never let go
Of all of my memories of you.
And if you see me cry,
sometimes in the sunlight,
It's a small price to pay,
For keeping your memories bright.
And everywhere that I go, you're always my friend.
Though I may never see you
I may never see you
If I never see you again.
